What is the Difference Between a Wafer Check Valve and a Flange Check Valve?

Flange check valve refers to a valve that automatically opens and closes the valve flap by relying on the flow of the medium itself to prevent the backflow of the medium, also known as check valve, one-way valve, reverse flow valve, and back pressure valve. The check valve is an automatic valve whose main function is to prevent the backflow of the medium, the reverse rotation of the pump and the driving motor, and the discharge of the medium in the container. Check valves may also be used on lines supplying auxiliary systems where pressure may rise above system pressure. Check valves can be mainly divided into flange check valves and lift check valves.


Wafer check valve and flange check valve belong to the same kind of check valve. Wafer check valve is called reverse flow valve, check valve, back pressure valve and one-way valve. This type of valve is automatically opened and closed by the force generated by the flow of the medium itself in the pipeline, so what are the differences between the wafer check valve and the flange check valve?


1. Comparison of size and weight between wafer check valve and flange check valve


The structure of the wafer check valve is very short in length, small in size and light in weight, which brings great convenience to the installation, handling, storage and pipeline arrangement of the valve, and can save a lot of materials and reduce the cost; the flange check valve structure It's long, bulky, and heavy.

The wafer check valve is small in size, has a short valve disc stroke, and is assisted by a spring to close the valve quickly.


3. The application of the fluid resistance of the wafer check valve and the flange check valve is different


The resistance of the wafer check valve is small, and the fluid resistance coefficient decreases with the increase of the valve diameter; the flange check valve is smaller, but under low pressure conditions, the valve disc cannot be fully opened, and the fluid resistance is large. Fluid resistance increases with the increase of valve caliber.


4. Wafer check valve and flange check valve have different opening pressures


The opening of the wafer check valve is very small, and the disc can be fully opened under a small pressure difference; the opening pressure of the flange check valve is large, and the disc can be fully opened under a large pressure difference.


5. The installation methods of wafer check valve and flange check valve are different


Wafer check valve can be installed horizontally or vertically, light weight, no need to set a support for the valve; flange check valve can be installed horizontally or vertically, large-diameter valves are heavy and need to set a support.
