What Are the Differences between Floating Ball Valves and Fixed Ball Valves?

The floating ball valve has a simple structure and good sealing performance, but the load of the working medium is all transferred to the outlet seal ring, so it is necessary to consider whether the seal ring material can withstand the working load of the ball medium. When subjected to high pressure impact, the ball may be displaced. This structure is generally used for medium and low pressure ball valves.

The fixed ball valve is a new generation of high-performance ball valve suitable for long-distance pipelines and general industrial pipelines. Its strength, safety, and resistance to harsh environments were specially considered during design, and it is suitable for various corrosive and non-corrosive media. Compared with the floating ball valve from Utmost floating ball valve factory, when working, the force generated by the fluid pressure in front of the valve on the ball is completely transmitted to the bearing, so the ball will not move toward the valve seat, and the valve seat will not bear excessive pressure. Therefore, the fixed ball valve has small torque, small valve seat deformation, stable sealing performance, and long service life, and is suitable for high pressure and large diameter applications.

The appearance difference between floating ball valve and fixed ball valve

If the valve body of the ball valve contains a seat injection valve, it is almost a fixed ball valve. However, the opposite is not true. A ball valve without a seat injection valve is not necessarily a floating ball valve, and small sizes of fixed ball valves are generally without seat injection valves.

The working principle difference between floating ball valve and fixed ball valve

The ball of the floating ball valve can have slight displacement as long as it is on the valve stem, so it is called a floating ball valve. The bottom of the fixed ball valve ball has a fixed shaft and fixed ball parts, so it cannot have displacement, so it is called a fixed ball valve. The ball of the floating ball valve can move due to the pressure of the medium and closely adhere to the valve seat for sealing, and it is necessary to consider whether the valve seat material can withstand the working pressure. The ball of the fixed ball valve is fixed, and the valve seat is moved by the medium pressure to closely adhere to the ball for sealing.

The differences in function and use between floating ball valve and fixed ball valve

The floating ball valve is used for medium and low pressure and small diameter. The fixed ball valve can withstand over 2500LB and up to 60 inches in size. The fixed ball valve generally has a longer service life than the floating ball valve. According to user feedback, the fixed ball valve has been used for ten years without any problems. The torque of the fixed ball valve is slightly smaller than that of the floating ball valve, so it is more labor-saving to use. Fixed ball valves over four inches have seat injection valves, while floating ball valves do not. The sealing effect of the fixed ball valve is more reliable. The PTFE single-material sealing ring is embedded in the stainless steel valve seat, and the metal seat has a spring at the tail end to ensure sufficient pre-tightening force of the sealing ring. When the sealing surface of the valve is worn during use, the valve can still maintain excellent sealing performance under the action of the spring. Fixed ball valves of the same specification are usually more expensive than floating ball valves. Contact Utmost ball valve factory for more informations.
