Seven Solutions to Control Valve Vibration

Increasing valve stiffness method of the regulating value valve

For oscillation and slight vibration, increasing stiffness can be used to eliminate or reduce it, such as using springs with large stiffness, or switching to piston actuators.

Increasing damping method of the regulating value valve

Increasing damping increases friction against vibration, such as using "O"-ring seals for sleeve valve spools, or using graphite filler with greater frictional force. This has some effect in eliminating or reducing slight vibration.

Increasing guide size and reducing clearance method of the regulating value valve

Generally, the guide size of spool valves is small, and the clearance between all valve fittings is usually large, around 0.4-1mm, which is helpful in causing mechanical vibration. Therefore, when slight mechanical vibration occurs, increasing the guide size and reducing clearance can weaken the vibration.

Changing the throttle piece shape of the regulating value valve to eliminate resonance

The so-called vibration source of a regulating valve occurs at the throttle section where high-speed flow and rapid pressure changes occur. Changing the shape of the throttle piece can change the vibration source frequency, which can be relatively easy to solve when the resonance is not too strong. The specific method is to turn down the valve core surface by 0.5-1.0mm within the vibration opening range.

Replacing the regulating valve type to eliminate resonance

Regulating valves with different structural forms have different natural frequencies, so replacing the regulating valve type is the most effective method to eliminate resonance fundamentally. A valve that resonates severely—vibrates strongly (even breaking the valve in serious cases), rotates intensely (even snapping or twisting the valve stem), and produces strong noise—can be immediately solved by replacing it with a valve with significantly different structure types, and the strong resonance will miraculously disappear. Reducing cavitation vibration method of the regulating value valve

For cavitation vibration caused by the rupture of cavitation bubbles, measures should naturally be taken to reduce the cavitation. ① Let the energy of the impact caused by the bubble bursting not act on the solid surface, especially the valve core, but let the liquid absorb it. Sleeve valves have this characteristic, so the spool type valve core can be changed to a sleeve type. ② Adopt all measures to reduce cavitation, such as increasing throttling resistance, increasing pressure at the contraction outlet, and reducing pressure in stages or in series.

Avoiding vibration source wave impact method of the regulating value valve

Foreign vibration source wave impact causes valve vibration, which should obviously be avoided during normal operation of regulating industrial valves. If this vibration occurs, appropriate measures should be taken.
